Step 1- When making your Sim, Remember to pick traits that aim for success, like:

-Ambitious

-Perfectionist

-Frugal

And to avoid traits like: 

-Unlucky

-Absent minded

-Evil (unless you decide to be in the Criminal Career)

Step 2- Get the best furniture for the least amount of money. Here are some examples.

   Power of love seat (couch)

   Thief-Techs Gotcha! (burglar alarm)

   Channel Trowler 27″ TV (television set)

   Chill Good Fridge

   Cow Poke Stove

   Squatter’s Sink

   Country Fried Counter

   Mirage Garbage Can

   Sun up Breakfast Table

   Rafkin’s Chair

   The Single Post Bed

And other cheap, good quality items. Start with this stuff, than upgrade the rest when you have money.

(Note- Do not start with expensive things. If you do, you wont have money for bills, and it will be repossessed.)

Step 3- Pick a job that pays the best. Here are the top 3 paying jobs.

-Medical Career. Although the last promotion pays 9,600 a week, you only get Wednesday off.

-Criminal Career-Thief. The last promotion in the thief track pays 8,400, but you get 3 days off!

-Military Career. This pays only 6,000 a week for the last promotion, but you only have to work once a week! That means 6,000 dollars a day.

Step 4- Balance your time.

-If you work long hours, Get your mood up before work and maybe take it easy for a while. You need that precious time after work to work on your skills, and renew your mood.

-Have time to practice hobbies. Hobbies increase mood, and even earn you money! Embark on a cooking challenge, Or collect sparkling gems! Hobbies increase revenue!

Step 5- Save your money!

-You may not know it, but you can buy stores if you have enough money! Money pours in almost daily, and you can get lots of it! The only downside to owning a store it that it takes a lot of money to buy.

-You still need to upgrade your house, so that your mood increases faster, and you can even get the “Beautifully Decorated” Mood. Save up for some luxuries, but have enough left to pay bills for time to come.
